Reminders and a records wallet for your dog

Okaypup lets you set reminders for vaccines, heartworm, flea and tick treatment, medication, deworming, grooming and vet visits, and keep photos of vaccine pages and other papers in a records wallet. Notifications are scheduled on your iPhone, with no server involved.

How do I add a reminder?

Open Care, tap Add reminder, and pick a type. You name it, choose a schedule and a time, and add notes. Okaypup schedules the notification on your phone.

The app does not propose dates or doses. Use the ones your vet gave you.

  1. Open the Care tab.
  2. Tap Add reminder.
  3. Choose a type: vaccine, heartworm, flea and tick, medication, deworming, grooming, vet visit or custom.
  4. Set the schedule and time, then save.

What can I do from the notification?

A reminder such as Heartworm for your dog offers Done and Snooze 1 hour. Done writes the entry to your care log with your name.

What goes in the records wallet?

Take a photo or pick one from your library, crop it, then file it by type. The types are rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Lepto, Lyme, microchip, insurance and other. Each record has a date given and a valid-until date.

Photos stay on your iPhone. The camera and photo permissions are asked only when you add a picture.

Can I share the records?

The passport screen lets you pick what to include and hands a PDF or an image to the iOS share sheet. That is useful for a sitter or daycare. The file goes only where you send it.

What are the free limits?

The free plan covers a limited number of active reminders and documents. Plus removes those limits and adds multi-dose schedules. The numbers are shown in the app before you hit them.

Who is it for?

Owners with a vaccine card in a drawer and a flea treatment they keep forgetting, families who share the job and anyone who has been asked by a daycare for proof of vaccination at the last minute.

See dog vaccine records for how to request a clean copy, and dog medication reminders for reminder habits that hold up.

What happens if I delete a record?

Records live on your iPhone, so deleting one removes it from the app. Keep the paper original. The privacy policy explains that Delete all data in Me > Privacy and data removes every dog, entry, photo and scheduled notification from the app.

How can I schedule a reminder?

You can set a reminder once, daily at one or more times, or repeating every number of days, weeks or months. You can also set a start date and an optional end date for a short course.

OptionExample
OnceA booked vet visit
DailyA pill with breakfast
Every N days or weeksFlea treatment on the dose schedule you were given
Every N monthsA monthly heartworm tablet
With an end dateA course that stops on a set day

What does the Care tab show?

Care has three views: Upcoming for the next 60 days, Due for today and Done for history. A reminder that has slipped shows how many days it was missed, and the detail page suggests checking the label or asking your vet before giving it. You can also skip a reminder and note why.

Can it warn me before I run out?

Yes. Add the doses left and switch on the refill reminder. Okaypup notifies you at five doses left so you can reorder in time. The count only goes down when you tap Done on a reminder, so keep marking doses as you give them and the number stays right.

What do the record statuses mean?

Each document shows Valid, Expires soon or Expired. The label is based on the valid-until date you enter, so type it from the paper. The records list also shows the date given, which is handy when a daycare asks.

What is in the passport?

Choose among records, routine, meds schedule, allergies, vet contact, emergency contact and behavior notes. The preview shows the dog's breed, sex, age, weight and microchip, and the PDF footer reads Made with Okaypup. You can send it as a PDF or as text.

Honest limits

The app does not read the text on a vaccine page, so you enter the dates yourself. It will not tell you which vaccines are due. Notifications depend on iPhone settings, so keep them allowed for Okaypup.

How do I share a single document?

Open a record and tap Share to send that one document through the iOS share sheet, with the dog's name and the document type as the message. The same screen has Edit and Delete. Deleting removes the photo from the phone after a confirmation.

A realistic setup for a new dog

A setup like this takes about fifteen minutes and then runs by itself. The rest of the year you only mark doses done.

  1. Add the dog's vaccine papers to the records wallet with the dates.
  2. Create a vaccine reminder for the next due date your vet gave you.
  3. Add monthly heartworm and flea reminders on a date you will remember.
  4. Set the Done action to be your habit: tap it from the lock screen.
  5. Open the passport and check what a sitter would see.
